I am writing this email to announce the truth. I , 23 years old, left the United Arab Emirates on the 16th of January 2008.
This step I have taken is totally and 100% by my own will due to unfortunate circumstances I have faced from my family and the country. I suffered for several years from physical, emotional, and sexual abuses from my family. I reached a point in my life that made me insane and affected my health tremendously; I then realized I need serious help. I tried to approach my family as always but no one was ever willing to hear or take me seriously, everyone just chose to live in denial although I tried to beg for help and justice. Then I knew that I had to seek help from counselors, I did try them whom sadly just let me down with no solutions.
By the grace and will of Allah I came across Sharla Musabih organization through my search on the internet. I thought of giving it a try, so I contacted Sharla by email since I was forbidden from any other means of communication. Sharla set up a meeting date with me to meet at my university. After a long conversation for the first time in my life I had someone to hear me and understand my pain. Sharla is a very honest sincere person whom truly fears ALLAH and will never take any wrong path under any circumstances. She might not be a born Muslim but Allah judges my words when I say that I find her a much TRUE MUSLIM than a lot of other Muslims by birth. Her suggestion to me was inviting me to her shelter so I could sooth for a couple of days while she would get in touch with my family to bring them for a meeting and reach mutual solution for all. I then told her I will give it a thought, pray estkhara and get back to her.
Few days later when I was stopped by my father from continuing my bachelor degree internship, which I had only 8 weeks left to graduate. I discovered that I had been booked in to a mental hospital by my mother and overheard them talking about a forced marriage for me. I knew my life was finished & it was up to me to seek my own happiness & protection! This is when I totally broke down and knew no one would help me our care I had no hope for the first time I felt like if I don't protect myself, no one ever will I was so tired & I had tried for several years. If I want to follow my dreams to success and hard work I have to leave.
My decision my plan and my Canadian visa were all done by me personally and I assure you for this. After leaving the country United Arab Emirates, I then got in touch with Sharla and told her that things were going over board and I couldn't survive there anymore, this was the only solution I had to take. She again offered me help and told me she will handle this situation. She begged me to come back & that she would visit Sheik Khalifa's office for my protection! I was scared & did not feel I could trust anyone! I got a call from the Canadian government telling me that the UAE ambassador in Ottawa Hassan AlSuwaidi was contacting them & was requesting my contact details; he kept trying to get my personal information from them, while he was disregarding their system of respect for my individual human rights! He was asking for my contact details! The Canadian police asked me if I would be willing to speak with Mr Hassan Al Suwaidi; however I feared him; & I refused! They respected my decision and they didn't force me into anything.
Sharla willingly got in touch with Mr Hassan AlSuwaidi to inform him that I am safe and she would love if he could cooperate with her to reach a fair solution. He asked her for my contacts which Sharla refused to give due to her standards of trust & respect for her cases; Mr AlSuwaidi asked if he could meet with her in Dubai & speak to me from her phone! He then did go to UAE and met Sharla. That is when he spoke to me for the first time. I tried explaining to him what I had suffered & that I have no trust & that I come from a lot of pain that I am suffering from but unfortunately and as I expected he wasn't at all interested or willing to take it seriously; all he could say and care about is that I should meet him and he tried to impress me by saying that he's willing to offer me money whenever I need, but I should call him and get in touch with him for that. I knew this was all sweet talk and nothing in my favor so I told him I need time to heal. When he did not hear from me in few days he betrayed Sharla's trust in him and called my family just to give them Sharla's details and contact number... I was shocked that someone in his important position would behave in such an unprofessional way in front of the whole world & Canadian Gov. He has hurt Sharla & her family without a care! The Canadian Government knows all of this; how could the UAE have such a person handle these problems??
And she is the one who is in touch with me and supports my case. She was the one that told me I must not stay away from my family forever! Mr Hassan did not give up, even though Sharla Musabih had offered to work with him to create a trusting way for us to re open the communication between my family & me! This would have been the best way to solve the problem; yet, Mr Hassan Al Suwaidi broke all contact with Sharla & began to crush her by betraying his promise of confidentiality! He traveled all the way from Ottawa to Dubai to have a meeting with Sharla Musabih for the purpose of coordinating communication & trust for my return & he betrayed both me the Canadian Gov. & poor Sharla! I am feeling so disgusted & ashamed to call myself an Emirati after witnessing his behavior!
Mr Hassan did not give up in fact my family and he started accusing a friend of mine w er. Accusing my friend of kidnapping me and that Sharla Musabih and my friend helped me through all this; The truth is that Mr Hassan Al Suwaidi is the one that agreed to meet with Sharla for a solution, Sharla tried her best & I would have come back if I felt safe; Mr Hassan's actions made me feel scared & I no longer had any trust.!! How dare Mr Hassan Give Sharla's name to my family! They are abusive & irrational;
I am not sure if Sharla Musabih will ever be safe again from this lie! Our people do not understand these issues & will not take the time to understand these issues, they will simply attack & that is what they are doing to Sharla M. Harram! This lady is so helpful! He put Sharla's life in danger, just like the stupid media continues to lie & put her in danger!
The Canadian government respected me as an adult & I have rights & respect to be safe! After several attempts from Hassan AlSuwaidi UAE Ambassador trying his level best to get contact me through the Canadian government he then arranged a meeting with them. He was explaining to them; "many girls run away from the UAE and they fail to survive due to the easy life they have been given in their own country."This was such an insult to all UAE women!
He then said that "there are a lot of abuses and tension in the country which leads the girls to consider leaving the country, He said that these girls are craving a free life style & he explained that if they want this free life style it is available in the UAE (I felt sick to my stomach that this is what he was thinking!) He has no respect for the real problem & he just wants to make the problem simple & as if we all want a boyfriend! Childish!! This is why many girls are locked up in Khalifa Hospital because no one will help them be safe & protected from abuse. Everything that he was saying to the police was making them more & more concerned for my security & with every word they were more certain that I needed help! I had a pinch of hope in me that I will sooner or later go back to my own country and things can be solved but honestly after taking this step and witnessing Mr Hassan's betrayal of this humble sweet woman after she contacted him based on trust; I feel that this is a normal policy & just a normal sick part of the culture & I would suffer my whole life! After facing all what my country and family have been trying to do and the way they have humiliated themselves in the media. Of course not forgetting the horrible accusations they openly made about Sharla which was provoked by Mr Hassan Al Suwaidi; which have destroyed Sharla Musabih's life till today. I feel sick!
Inshallah this short summary of mine makes a difference and justice comes to life in UAE.
