AN OPEN LETTER TO DELEGATES IN BAHRAIN MARCH 1-3, 2009 from: The Board of Directors UNITED HOPE UAE, “United Action for Empowerment!”
Greetings from America. We commend Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for hosting such a respectable audience this weekend on such an urgent topic. We thank Her Highness and the Minster of Foreign Affairs for the invitation to “Human Trafficking at the Crossroads” conference in Bahrain and apologize that a security threat against our founder causes our absence,...but our work goes on!!
Do you or your organization provide shelter to victims of human trafficking that have no place to sleep? Do you seek justice, provide clothes, food and security for those that have been sold into slavery? Most importantly, do you provide HOPE to those that are facing hopelessness today? We do, ……….and now we ask for your help.
By means of this Open Letter To All Attendees at this week’s conference, may we urgently and humbly ask for your help in our mission of serving the victims of human trafficking? UNITED HOPE UAE, "United Action for Empowerment!" is the only N.G.O. in the Middle East and Ethiopia solely dedicated to helping the innocent victims of the scourge politely called human trafficking, which in truth is nothing less than slavery.
There are over 76 very intelligent people at the conference at the Ritz Carlton this week. We urgently and politely ask you to help UNITED HOPE UAE fulfill its mission. We believe you can help us make the difference, we ask you to contact us today. We specifically ask you to discuss the five issues below with Foreign Minister Gargash of the UAE, in attendance this weekend. These issues have been problematic for us and our victims for a number of years and we believe your help will facilitate positive change in 2009:
We publicly request H.E. Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, UAE to:
1- Finally, and officially, recognize, support and license our “City of Hope ” shelter - the only privately-run NGO in the United Arab Emirates since 1991.
2- Provide a modicum of funding for our grassroots, volunteer organization that provides the only first-responder services to victims of human trafficking in the UAE.
3- Work with us to have an effective “mechanism” to provide post-crisis services to the women and children that we serve. These services include, but are not limited to: toll-free phone hotline phone number and marketing thereof, plane tickets for repatriation, emergency shelter including food and clothes, job services, legal representation to initiate compensation lawsuits against the purveyors of this crime (per U.N. recommendations), liaison services with Embassies and all other services that are provided by most leading countries in the world.
4- Establish official link between our organization and governmental entities in the UAE, include one of our board members on the anti-trafficking task force which currently has no voice for the victims, and establish a sanctioned reporting system to report to the world the results of our efforts.
5- After years of asking the above, if the answer from the government of the UAE remains no, please tell us and ALL ATTENDEES.............Why?
Some folks inevitably want to debate the validity of the need, the urgency of our request, or the sincerity of our efforts. We believe YOU and the other attendees assembled in Bahrain today are different. YOU are leaders in the fight and we seek your guidance, advice and financing to help us serve our clients more effectively in 2009!
